Public Viewing

July 10th, 2014  |  by  |  published in Feature, Hamburg, Stories

Public Viewing In case you haven't noticed, soccer is a huge thing in Germany. Immensely huge. While at home, various clubs attract specific clientele - St. Pauli for example is much more attractive to the "social underbelly" than Bayern Munich is which tends to attract well situated followers. When it comes to the big international tournaments, soccer becomes the great equalizer and Germans from all walks of li...

Happy New Year!

January 2nd, 2014  |  by  |  published in Blog, Feature

Happy New Year! I wish everybody a happy new year 2014! For me, 2013 has been a very busy year with lots of work related travel and 2014 looks just as busy - in fact I am leaving for a business trip to CES at Las Vegas this weekend. Just like last year, I'll be leaving that couch behind me a lot in 2014. And one of the resolutions for the new year is that I'm going to share more of my travel and photography with ...

A day in London

August 14th, 2013  |  by  |  published in Feature, Photography

A day in London Due to my work, I benefit from international one day business trips occasionally. Yesterday, I had a meeting in London, so I hopped on a plane from Hamburg to London in the morning and back again in the evening. On my way to my meeting and back to the airport I managed to get away with some images. My meeting place was close to Victoria station where the company I work for has their London offi...

London Street | Analog – Part Two

June 10th, 2013  |  by  |  published in Feature, Stories

London Street | Analog - Part Two In part one of this blog post, I shared London's Underground and trains as well as some quieter street scenes away from the main hustle and bustle of the busy areas. I did turn my attention to a wide area of locations while in London, including a pub. Pubs are not typically among the locations I seek images in. Depending on the kind of location and local culture, a pub borders on being a private d...

London Street | Analog – Part One

June 9th, 2013  |  by  |  published in Feature, Stories

London Street | Analog - Part One There are a handful of cities on this planet that stand out from the all the other cities in terms of relevance, vibrancy, culture, flair and maybe even something intangible as mojo. It's not easy to define the definite top ten of metropolises with the top contenders in order to each other, but it's pretty clear that cities such as New York City, Tokyo, Paris and London rank very high in this top ...

Hamburg – Analog Seasons

March 31st, 2013  |  by  |  published in Feature, Hamburg, Photography

Hamburg - Analog Seasons It feels like the new year barely started and now the first quarter is already gone. And yes, in many parts of Europe, winter is still in charge! That's very much true for my native Hamburg in northern Germany where it has snowed until the last days with large spots of snow still dominating the landscape outside. Looking back at the last year in pictures, I have compiled some of the analog highlig...

Subway Pattern

July 28th, 2012  |  by  |  published in Blog

Subway Pattern Things happen fast in street photography. I spotted this woman whose headscarf and dress matched the color pattern of the subway station and while I saw the image forming in my mind, I wasn't quick enough the raise the camera to eye level, so this is a shot from the hip - hence the not ideal exposure. I still think this image works....

Nocturnal Pedestrian

July 26th, 2012  |  by  |  published in Blog

Nocturnal Pedestrian I went downtown for some late night ice cream as it's finally summer in Hamburg. As I was returning home, I came across a cute little nocturnal pedestrian. I almost didn't spot this little guy while walking past. Don't let the image betray you, it was almost pitch black where the hedgehog was pausing for me to walk by. It's all the more impressive that the camera managed to get this shot with a...

A Spanish Portfolio

July 1st, 2012  |  by  |  published in Feature, Stories

A Spanish Portfolio Many times had I been to Spain before I traveled Andalusia for the first time, last year in October. I had visited the Costa Brava a couple of times, I had seen Barcelona, I had been to Madrid. I drove my first car across the Pyrenees from Barcelona to San Sebastian and back south via Zaragoza. I have walked the Camino de Santiago from Pamplona all the way to Cape Finisterre. Yet, when we visited ...

Hamburg’s impressive photography summer

June 8th, 2012  |  by  |  published in Feature, Gallery, Hamburg, Photography, Stories

Hamburg's impressive photography summer It has taken a long time until photography became a recognized genre in the art world and beyond. Transforming from craft to art, photography is now a permanent part of many world class museums. For this summer, Hamburg offers some excellent exhibitions that are photography based or related. After Hamburg's Deichtorhallen already showed Saul Leiter earlier this year, I'm very happy to see that thi...
