Public Viewing

Public Viewing In case you haven't noticed, soccer is a huge thing in Germany. Immensely huge. While at home, various clubs attract specific clientele - St. Pauli for example is much more attractive to the "social underbelly" than Bayern Munich is which tends to attract well situated followers. When it comes to the big international tournaments, soccer becomes the great equalizer and Germans from all walks of li...

Leica T – First thoughts

April 25th, 2014  |  by  |  published in Blog, Gadgets

Leica took its sweet time to release a modern, mirrorless system camera. Dubbed the Leica T, available in black and silver, it resembles a design we have seen from Sony in its NEX cameras. The camera will be manufactured and assembled in a dedicated plant in Germany, while the native lenses for the new T mount will only be Leica branded but in fact be manufactured and assembled by Panasonic</...

Happy New Year!

January 2nd, 2014  |  by  |  published in Blog, Feature

Happy New Year! I wish everybody a happy new year 2014! For me, 2013 has been a very busy year with lots of work related travel and 2014 looks just as busy - in fact I am leaving for a business trip to CES at Las Vegas this weekend. Just like last year, I'll be leaving that couch behind me a lot in 2014. And one of the resolutions for the new year is that I'm going to share more of my travel and photography with ...

Hamburg – Analog Seasons

Hamburg - Analog Seasons It feels like the new year barely started and now the first quarter is already gone. And yes, in many parts of Europe, winter is still in charge! That's very much true for my native Hamburg in northern Germany where it has snowed until the last days with large spots of snow still dominating the landscape outside. Looking back at the last year in pictures, I have compiled some of the analog highlig...

I still think this image works....

Nocturnal Pedestrian

July 26th, 2012  |  by  |  published in Blog

Nocturnal Pedestrian I went downtown for some late night ice cream as it's finally summer in Hamburg. As I was returning home, I came across a cute little nocturnal pedestrian. I almost didn't spot this little guy while walking past. Don't let the image betray you, it was almost pitch black where the hedgehog was pausing for me to walk by. It's all the more impressive that the camera managed to get this shot with a...

Hamburg’s impressive photography summer

June 8th, 2012  |  by  |  published in Feature, Gallery, Hamburg, Photography, Stories

Hamburg's impressive photography summer It has taken a long time until photography became a recognized genre in the art world and beyond. Transforming from craft to art, photography is now a permanent part of many world class museums. For this summer, Hamburg offers some excellent exhibitions that are photography based or related. After Hamburg's Deichtorhallen already showed Saul Leiter earlier this year, I'm very happy to see that thi...
